Bradley names U.S. roster to face Cuba

The roster:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa, England), Tim Howard (Everton, England)

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes, France), Danny Califf (Midtjylland, Denmark), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover, Germany), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard Liege, Belgium), Michael Orozco (San Luis, Mexico), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock, Germany), Marvell Wynne (Toronto)

Midfielders: DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland), Michael Bradley (Heerenveen, Netherlands), Ricardo Clark (Houston), Maurice Edu (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Eddie Lewis (Los Angeles)

Forwards: Brian Ching (Houston), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles), Clint Dempsey (Fulham, England), Eddie Johnson (Cardiff, Wales)

Defenders Danny Califf, Michael Orozco and Marvell Wynne were added to the U.S. roster for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Cuba, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Midfielder Ricardo Clark also was among 20 players selected Thursday by U.S. coach Bob Bradley. Injured midfielder Pablo Mastroeni was dropped along with defender Jay DeMerit. Glad to see Ricardo Clark getting another chance. Hope he gets to play over Bradley.

The U.S. team gathers in Miami starting Monday and leaves Sept. 4 for Havana, where it plays Cuba two days later. The Americans host T&T at Brideview, Ill., four days later.

Eighteen players can dress for each match. Defender Steve Cherundolo is suspended for the game at Cuba following his ejection Aug. 20 at Guatemala, where the Americans won 1-0 in their semifinal round opener. Defender Oguchi Onyewu, goalkeeper Tim Howard and forward Clint Dempsey would be suspended if they receive one more yellow card.

Thirteen players are based outside the United States, and six were members of the U.S. Olympic team in Beijing. The roster includes forward Eddie Johnson, loaned last week to Cardiff by Fulham in England.
