The United States is the sole superpower in the world but it is not yet a super-power in the world of football. Nonetheless, in the 2010 World Cup, the United States demonstrated that they can compete on the world stage. Before 78,000 soccer fans at the Meadowlands, for the first half, the United States were bedazzled by the Argentinians led by Lionel Messi who is recognized as the best offensive player in the world.
The first half revealed the limitations of the United States coaching staff and raised the question, can the United States team rise to the level of finesse that the Brazilians and Argentinians are capable of displaying?
Down 1-0 at the end of the first half, the U.S. in the second half made a technical change and resorted to a more attacking formation by bringing in 18 year old Agudelo as a second striker. The results were telling as it made the U.S. not just absorbing the relentless Argentinian movement off the ball but it placed them in a position to threaten in their last third. It is one of those threatening forays that Donovan played a free kick outside of the box that ended with Agudelo equalizing against the Argentinian giants and bringing them down to a manageable size. Triumphantly for the United States, the game ended in a draw.

It was an inauspicious debut, however, as Onyewu was the defender beaten on Club America's first goal -- well-taken by Enrique Esqueda -- 10 minutes after entering the game and the Mexican club went win, 2-1.
Onyewu, who signed as a free agent following a strong Confederations Cup and practiced with Milan for the first time on Tuesday, came on for Alessandro Nesta after halftime, but Esqueda sneaked behind him to put away Salvador Cabanas' well-placed cross.
"I think it was very fast for him because he arrived yesterday and had to play today," said Milan coach Leonardo. "It's not easy to arrive and get to know the group and know the system we play, but he's very positive, a very good guy. We are very happy with his arrival."
Filippo Inzaghi equalized for Milan with an opportunistic goal, but Daniel Marquez's header six minutes from time again exposed the middle of the Milan defense in the air and gave America its second win over an Italian club in four days.

PSG Back Into Gooch Fray? The French side have reportedly renewed their interest in signing Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu, joining fellow Ligue 1 team Olympic Marsielle in the race for his signature. Highly-sought after American defender Oguchi Onyewu has another suitor lining up for his signature come January, as Paris Saint-Germain have renewed their interest in bringing him back to France.
Previously, Olympique Marsielle have made it known they want the 26-year-old who currently plays his club football in Belgium with Standard Liege and the speculation was rife that they had the upper hand. But with the reports the PSG are taking a seriously look, his future has again become cloudy.
"These are two great clubs,” said Onyewu in an interview with the French newspaper 10Sport. “You can go to any country, and even people who do not know football can cite the names of OM and PSG. This is the mark of the big clubs, those with history, with passion all around."

Onyewu has made 155 appearances for Standard Liege since joining them in 2004 from Metz. Despite being with Metz from 2002-04 he only made three first-team appearances with the club before being loaned out to Liege in a deal which eventually became permanent.
"His first quality, his mindset of the competitor,” said Standard Liege head coach Laszlo Boloni. “When the game starts, he is not 100%, but 150%! Oguchi also has a real understanding of the game, which works wonders during the match. His adaptability at the tactical level is priceless. Of course, with his height (6'4"), he is excellent in the air. "
Given the type of player he is, and his obvious skill, the price has been set at around €3 million or about $4.1 million, with OM still being the favorite to sign him when the transfer window opens in just over two weeks.
